For our current math unit students have been collecting, analyzing and asking questions about data. Today's collection was all about lost teeth! Second graders made two different representations to show how many teeth they lost. One cube represented one tooth, and tower represented one person. Scholars did a terrific job asking questions, such as: could we find out the total amount of teeth lost? Could we find out how many people are in our class? Which number has the most? Which number has the least? Ask your child which number is the mode!

On Tuesday, February 11th, second graders in Ms. Darling's class had a lesson on expected volume during classroom times. The class was taught by our student life coordinator, Mrs. Touchette. We created a poster with our volume scale numbers 1-5. Number 1- no talking, 2-whispearing, 3-talking, 4-yelling, and 5-screaming. As a class we brainstormed when would the appropriate times be to use all these different levels and why. Our poster has picture clues for each volume level featuring students in our class. The scholars have been doing an amazing job already with our volume scale!

Wednesday, February 5th was our 100th day of school! Second graders were very excited to celebrate that they were 100 days smarter than the first day. To celebrate, every second grader in Ms. Darling's class made super hero capes with 100 items on it. They also created a super hero name! We played a math game "Race to 100" which practiced writing the numbers up to 100, and recorded how many times we could complete certain activities in 100 seconds. Our super hero names are: Wonder woman, Mustache, Fabulous Fab, Luke, 100 Man, Cat, Super A Man, Super Nothing, Flower Power, Cat, Fabulous Twins, Turbo, Captain Football, Super Croc, Rainbow Power, Fabulous Twins, William, Fabulous Fab, Super M, The Great Mrs. M, Super Link Giver, Super SG (Second Grade). It was a blast celebrating and we are looking forward to our 101st day of school!
