Second graders have been working on writing small moments (narrative) pieces based on the Lucy Calkins method. Scholars have been practicing making their writing come alive by unfreezing people, taking small steps, and bringing out the inside.
Today, writers worked on adding beginnings that grab the reader. To do this, scholars can start a story with a sound effect, an action, describe the setting, start with talking, or start with one word. Ask your child how they chose to start their small moment!
