Part of the second grade reading curriculum is participating in reading stations that focus on different aspects of reading. The stations are read to self, partner reading, listen to reading, and word work. During read to self, students are reading just right books to themselves. In partner reading, scholars are sharing a book and taking turns reading pages to each other. During listen to reading, students use the online reading program Raz Kids. In Raz Kids, students can listen to reading, record themselves reading, and finally take a comprehension quiz. For word work, students practice our spelling pattern of the week or practice with trick words. Today was the first day scholars participated in these stations and they did a terrific job!

Harvest Field Trip #resvt #farmtoschool
Friday, second graders walked to the Jericho Settler's Farm in Richmond to participate in harvesting activities! Students rotated through three different stations which included: harvesting sweet potatoes, a read aloud "Tops and Bottoms", and identifying parts of plants relay! In the end, second graders harvested over 400 pounds of sweet potatoes! We had a great time and would like to thank our chaperones, Krista at JSF, and Ms. Redman for all their help in making this field trip fantastic!
