What do I write about?! #resvt
Sometimes trying to think of true stories about your life to write about can be tricky. Second grade writers have been creating heart maps and maps of their favorite places to help with the question, "what do I write about?" The heart map are topics that come from our heart; things we love to do, people we enjoy spending time with, our favorites. The map is a map of a favorite place with labels of things that happened there that could be stories. Take a look at some examples students have been working on!

Toy policy.
This year, please respect a “no toy and electronic policy” in our classroom. We will have special sharing days occasionally, but unless you hear from us, please do not let your child bring toys to class. We understand that some toys/games may come to school to be used during after school care. We ask that students keep those items in their backpack during the school day.
Toys include: Legos, Pokemon and Pokemon cards, stuffed animals, dolls, etc.
Thank you!

We need some help for this celebration to run smoothly; if you can donate your time please see the sign-up genius below. Our cougar cubs appreciate it!

Homework #resvt
September 12, 2016
Dear Families,
In our first Math unit students will be reviewing coin names, their values, and learning about equivalent coin trades. It is helpful for students to have a collection of coins to use throughout the school year to use for money skill games, money problem solving, and making change.
We are asking that students bring in the following collections of coins to use for the school year: 4 quarters, 5 dimes, 5 nickels, and 10 pennies. These coins will be returned to your child at the end of the year. Coins should come to school in a small zip lock bag, labeled with your child’s name. Please do your best to send these coins to school by Friday, September 16th.
** Empty and clean plastic baby food containers work extremely well to house coins at school. If any families happen to have these ready for recycling, please send these to school with your child as well.
Thanks so much for your help,
Ms. Darling

Seating options! #resvt
We got to try out all the seating options that are available in our classroom. Students learned the expectations for the reading hut, scoop rockers, bubble seats, stools, pillows, and the standing table. These are available for students during independent work times. We also discussed how seating options help us with our learning and how to make good choices when choosing a seat.

We have been working on our reading stamina during reader's workshop! Today we read for twelve minutes without getting up! Stamina is doing anything for a long period of time without getting tired or giving up! As second graders grow as readers, so too will their reading stamina! Keep up the amazing work!
