Our Crayons Quit! #resvt
Second graders took a different perspective during writer's workshop today. After we read "The Day the Crayons Quit" by Drew Daywalt students were challenged to write a friendly letter from the perspective of a crayon or Duncan the main character. Students took off with this writing challenge and came up with some creative letters! Many students chose to take on the personality of a crayon that wants to quit; the reasons for quitting were hilarious! Take a peek at the students writing and some of the letters!

Google Earth Pinpoints! #resvt
As part of our social studies unit on geography and comparing cultures, students are responsible for meeting technology standards. In this unit, the technology standard expected for students to achieve is "Using digital mapping resources, such as National Geographic Maps, Google Earth and Google Maps, they can locate the region of the culture they are studying and mark it." Our second graders have been exploring Google Earth and marking locations such as their houses and other points of interest. This has been a very popular tool for our class! We love exploring new locations!

Ipad Donations. #resvt
Dear Families,
I have submitted a request to Donors Choose to purchase two Ipads for our second grade class to improve their reading and phonic skills. Donors Choose makes it easy for anyone to help a classroom in need. They have been supporting teachers and students since 2000. Public school teachers from every corner of America create classroom project requests, and you can give any amount to the project. If you contribute before January 17th, Donors Choose will match your contribution if you use the code LIFTOFF during checkout.
I would like two more Ipads for our classroom so students can gain confidence in their fluency, comprehension and phonic skills. These Ipads will help foster a love for reading that will be carried on throughout scholar's lives. In return for donating, you receive a heartfelt thank you note from our class and pictures of our project being used. Please feel free to send the link to anyone who might be interested in our project. If you desire to contribute please do so before January 17th and use the code LIFTOFF to double your contribution.
Thank you very much for your consideration.

It finally snowed! #resvt
I am excited to welcome back all of our students and families tomorrow! I hope everyone had a restful and fun filled vacation. Since we finally have some snow on our playground, I wanted to remind families to please send students to school with hats, mittens/gloves, boots, snowpants, and a warm winter jacket since we go outside whenever weather permits!
