Red thoughts and Green thoughts #resvt

Thursday afternoon, second graders had a class discussion and activity where they the topic was red and green thoughts. We learned that what we say and do gives others thoughts about us. Red thoughts make others feel angry, sad, mad, uncomfortable, frustrated, furious, and disappointed. Green thoughts make others feel happy, great, respected, comfortable, proud, glad, and excited. As a class, students shared different scenarios and we talked about whether that action would give others red or green thoughts and why! Ask your child what gives them green thoughts at school or home!

Plus 1 or 2 bingo! #resvt

During math today, second graders learned and played the game "Plus 1 or 2 Bingo!" which is part of our Investigations math program. The goal during the game was for students to develop fluency with plus one and two addition combinations. Students will be playing this game throughout the week in addition to our daily math work.

5th grade buddies #resvt

On Friday, second graders met their 5th grade buddies from Camels Hump Middle School! Students were very excited to meet each other and will be meeting up once a month! On their first meet up, students exchanged index cards with some of their favorite things and read stories together! We are looking forward to seeing our buddies again in October!

Edward the Emu #resvt #RESreads

Second graders listened to the story Edward the Emu written by Sheena Knowles. In the story, Edward is an emu who lives at a zoo. He overhears zoo guests saying which animal they like the best and Edward decides to try out being that animal for the day. Eventually, Edward realizes that being himself is the best animal of all. Scholars made Edward the emu masks to celebrate their differences! Ask your student what other animals Edward tried being at the zoo!

Watercoloring #resvt

On Friday, scholars got a chance to explore watercolor paints! Students went over the expectations of using watercolors and then got a chance to paint their Elmer elephants for our Elmer day parade. The parade will be on display for Open House Thursday, September 18th at 6:00!
