Golfing field trip June 2nd #resvt

Second grade families,

The second graders will be going on a P.E. related field trip to Cedar Knoll Golf Course on Tuesday, June 2nd. In order for the day to run smoothly, we need about ten volunteers to help run stations. No golfing experience needed! Second grade will be at the golf course from 8:30-11:30; you can just support second grade or stay and support third grade as well.

If you would like to volunteer your time please e-mail: Kristin.Darling@cesuvt.org or Brian.Godfrey@cesuvt.org

Ole! #resvt

On Friday, second grade students had a Mexican fiesta to culminate our social studies unit: It's a Small World/Comparing Cultures. Each student was able to make and eat a taco! We wore our sombreros and enjoyed a pleasant Mexican lunch together! Thank you to all the families that donated the supplies to make our tacos!

Trick Word Tic-Tac-Toe #resvt

Students learned a new way to practice spelling their trick words with Trick Word Tic-Tac-Toe. Each second grader was partnered up and had to choose a different current trick word. Students then had to play tic-tac-toe, but instead of X's and O's they had to spell the trick word! It was a terrific new way to practice our spelling words! Try challenging your second grader at home!

Continent Riff Off #resvt

The boys and girls in Ms. Darling's class accepted a challenge where teams would come up with a song to help remember the names and locations of the seven continents and four major oceans. The boys team collaborated with Mr. Berry and Mr. Arthur, while the girls team collaborated with Ms. Darling. All lyrics, costumes, and dance moves were created by the students! It was quiet a fun Friday afternoon, when teams were able to preform (riff off) their songs for the opposing team! This was strictly a friendly competition, where the focus was on the lyrics! Check out the videos below to see each team's song.

Jeh Kulu Flynn Theater Workshop #resvt #cesuvt

In correlation with our Flynn Theater field trip on Friday, April 17th, RES has an artist in residence. Our artist in residence is Jeh Kulu from western Africa! On Tuesday, second graders had a Flynn Theater workshop to get students prepared to see the performance on Friday. Students sang songs in a call and repeat format (typical in the Jeh Kulu performance). Students also danced and performed as a choir. Look at the videos below to see a glimpse of our workshop! Thank you to Jeh Kulu, the Flynn Theater and Darcie Rankin for this amazing opportunity!
