Celebrate! Celebrate! #resvt

Students in Ms. Darling's class have been working hard on raising their hands when they have questions or comments. Today, to celebrate our success and continuation of practicing we celebrated with ice cream and hot cocoa! In their own words: "Yummy! Delicious! Yummy in my tummy! This is so good!" Way to go second grade scholars!

Fastt Math Tips #resvt #cesuvt

Here are some Fastt Math tips to better support your scholar at home or understand the math program a little better!

1) Students should ALWAYS click the "QUIT & EXIT" button within the game console when they are done with their session. They should never click the red 'x' in the top right corner to exit the program. When students do this, it doesn't always save their user data from the lessons they just completed and doesn't "log" the session.

2) If a student quits the lesson before playing a game they will be asked to redo the lesson. The first portion of the lesson is learning the focus facts. The game portion of the lesson is "practicing" the new facts integrated with prior facts learned (for review, retainment). 

3) If a student takes longer than 15 minutes on a single lesson, the program assumes the student was highly distracted during the lesson and will ask them to repeat it. This is built in so that students won't play with the TV in the background or chat with a neighbor while playing. It's meant to be quick and focused.

Shelburne Farms Field Trip #resvt

On Tuesday, second graders travelled back in time to the 1800's with help from the staff at Shelburne Farms! In connection with our "Founding Families" unit, students saw a skit where two different bedrooms were described. One bedroom was from the present times, while the other bedroom was from the 1800's. Students also participated in candle making, carting wool, making butter, grinding corn, and helping with the daily farm animal chores. This field trip made Pilgrim lives more realistic to our second graders! Thank you to all the chaperones and excellent staff at Shelburne Farms for helping our day run smoothly!

It's all about the area #resvt

In our geometry math unit we have been focusing on rectangles. We define a rectangle by a shape that has four sides and four right angles. Today students had to put rectangles in order from biggest to smallest based on the area. In second grade we define the area of a shape as how many square colored titles fit inside the shape. Students did an outstanding job discovering the area of rectangles!
