Our Korean pen pals have responded! #resvt

In an earlier blog post, I shared that our class was connecting with another class from South Korea in correlation to our comparing cultures unit. Last week, we sent them a video introducing ourselves and talked about what we thought our similarities and differences were. We are excited to report that our new friends have responded back! Please take a look at our sister schools blog to see their blog post and video introducing themselves. These students are currently learning the English language and are excited to share their new knowledge with us!

Please feel free to check our sister schools blog frequently to see updates, posts, and videos of our scholars and our pen pals from South Korea exchanging cultural similarities and differences!

I have added a link to our shared blog under the "Quick Link" section on the left hand side of this blog titled: South Korean pen pal blog.

Cultural Exchange! #resvt

In correlation with our social studies unit, "It's a Small World: Comparing Cultures", our class is communicating with two classes from around the world! The first class we are communicating with is a class in from Western Kenya, Africa located in Bungoma county. We have been exchanging pictures of our school and writing descriptions. We have been able to compare and contrast our culture through the pictures the school children are sending us! It has been great and we look forward to our e-mails from Kenya.

The other class that we are communicating with is located in Yuchon, South Korea. With this class we are both participating in a blog! We will be sharing recipes, songs, celebrations and other aspects of culture! Take a look at the blog here: VT-South Korea Blog. You can stay updated and ask your second grader what they have learned from our international penpals!

Below are some photographs that we have received from Kenya!

Lego writing! #resvt

We have started a very short creative writing unit to welcome us back to school from February vacation! Today, students were given twenty minutes and a basket full of Legos and were told to create! After the twenty minutes, students then had to come up with a story plan which had to include what they made out of Legos, who the characters were in their story, what character traits would their characters display, the setting, and then a quick sketch of the beginning, middle and end. Students will be writing, editing, publishing and sharing these creative stories in five days!

Some of the Lego creations were: jets, turtles, jails, schools, submarines, magic boxes, cars, and others! We are looking forward to writing and sharing our stories in the upcoming days!
